2. Sign-up with PCS
In order to test, you must meet the following statutory requirement (RF-10-108):
- Cosmetology: 1,450 hours of training
- Aesthetics and Nail Technology: 500 hours of training
- Cosmetology Instructor: 550 hours of instructor training
- Aesthetics Instructor: 400 hours of instructor training
- Nail Technology Instructor: 250 hours of instructor training

- Once pre-registration has been completed, candidates should be prepared to take the next available practical examination (a date will be assigned once the candidate has been approved by the board office.
- It is the candidate's responsibility to to register with PCS if they have been approved by the board office.
3. Approval: Board Office will approve candidate once eligibility requirements have been met.
4. Examination Notification: PCS will e-mail candidate information pertaining to examinations.
- Theory Examination - Candidate will receive an Authorization To Test Letter via e-mail within 2 business days.
- Practical Examination - Candidate will receive notification including the date, time, location of examination within 5 business days.
It is the candidate's responsibility to notify PCS if they do not receive examination information within the specified time frame mentioned above.
Once a practical notification has been sent informing a candidate of their assigned date, this date can not be rescheduled without a rescheduling fee.
5. Score Reports
- Theory Examination - An unofficial score report will be provided at the examination site. An official score report will be sent via mail within 10 busniess days of examination. Failing score reports will include a Strength & Weakness report and information on how to re-register.
- Practical Examination - An official score report will be mailed 10 business days after examination. Failing score reports will include a Strength & Weakness report and information on how to re-schedule.
6. License: Arizona Board of Cosmetology issues license to candidates who pass both examinations
